Why should I have a profile in the Smart Women directory?
Because it is a good way to promote your business and yourself. You can use a web link to your own site to help drive traffic there or, if you don’t yet have a web site of your own, make the most of your profile as a stop-gap solution. You can upload an image – of you, your logo, or examples of your products – and you can update or refresh your profile whenever you like. All this, and it’s free too. What should I put in my profile?
As long as what you right is legal, decent, honest and truthful, you can use your profile in any way you like. For ideas on how to go beyond the basics, take a look at our guide "How to Make the Most of Your Profile".
Why can't I just log on to the site and create a profile straight away?
We have a security system in place that means that once you have initially registered with your name, email address and password, we will send you an automatic email asking you to confirm your registration. This is to protect against anyone registering you without your permission.
How long will it take to receive the confirmation email?
You should receive this confirmation email within 24 hours (but usually much sooner). If you have not received such an email within that time, you might find that it has been trapped in a spam filter so please check your spam and junk mail files to see if it is there. If you still find you have not received the confirmation email after 24 hours, please contact support@womengetsmart.co.uk and we will look into the matter.
I initially registered for Smart Women a while ago but have either not received my confirmation email or I've deleted it by mistake. What should I do?
You cannot register again using the same email address but we can re-send the confirmation email if you fill in the form found here . We make every effort to make sure your email programme will not identify this email as spam but cannot guarantee that, so please make sure you check your spam filter too.
Do you have to own a business to register on the directory?
Not at all. Obviously, it’s an ideal place for a business owner to promote what they do but if you’re employed by a company or organisation and would like to use a Smart Women profile to explain what you do, that’s fine too.
You've asked me if I would be interested in participating in surveys. I'm a busy woman. Will I be bombarded with questionnaires?
No. Any surveys conducted through the Smart Women site will be on behalf of Smart Women or organisations that share Smart Women's aims. They will be carefully selected to gather information which will improve the provision of services and support to women in business. You will not be plagued by a lot of old nonsense.
I don't think I'm very photogenic - do I have to include a picture of myself on my profile?
Other community sites have found that profiles that use an image do get visited more frequently than those that don't. That said, lots of people don't like having their photograph taken so why not upload your logo or a picture of something you sell instead?
You’ve given me some free credits – what are they for?
Right now you can use your credits to promote events on the Smart Women calendar. Whether it’s a workshop, networking, or social event, if Nottingham’s business women are your target market, this is a great way to reach them. When you’ve used up your free credits, you’ll need to purchase some more but by then you’ll know whether the Smart Women Calendar works for you.
Is there any time limit on using the credits?
No. You can use them as quickly, or slowly, as you like.
Are there any other ways in which I can promote my events?
Any events posted on the Smart Women calendar will be included in the regular email updates of events so your event will get ‘pushed’ to women who are actively interested in hearing about them. You can also use some extra credits to get the ‘Event of the Day’ slot which gives just one event priority on any day. You need to contact us directly to arrange this.
I don’t run events. What can I do with my credits?
Hang on to them! This is just phase 1 of the Smart Women community so there will be more options to use your credits in future.
How else can I promote my business to Smart Women?
You can advertise on the site, choosing advertising space on the home page, other major pages, or targeting specific sectors within the directory to give your profile listing a boost.
Or you could think about sponsoring a particular day on the calendar, say, No Smoking Day if you help people to quit. This works like the ‘Event of the Day’ so contact us if you have any imaginative ideas. Have a look at more ideas to promote your business.
I've looked at my profile in My Account and seen the option to 'Unpublish'. What does this mean?
Unpublishing your profile means it will be removed from the site but not lost for ever. If, say you were going abroad for a few months and didn't want the profile there in your absence, you just Unpublish it. When you get back, log on to My Account and you can Publish it again when it suits.
